Our Landscape Preservation Seminar at Castle Hill Rated Excellent!

A sprinkling of snow set the stage at Castle Hill on November 14, 2014, for NELDHA’s Landscape Preservation Seminar. The seminar, co-sponsored with The Trustees of Reservations, focused on the recent restoration of the Casino sited within the historic allee. The seminar participants heard lectures on the Casino’s history, problems, restoration theory and techniques. Then they explored the restoration first hand.  In the afternoon, a distinguished panel answered questions on the restoration and addressed preservation issues facing the profession today. A special treat included a rare opportunity to climb to the top of the mansion for a 360-degree view of the estate and surrounding landscape.

NELDHA's Annual Reception was a Great Success

Beautiful weather set the stage for NELDHA's Annual Reception at the historic MIT Endicott House in Dedham, Massachusetts on April 25, 2014. Members and Friends enjoyed  the beautiful grounds and mansion while reconnecting with old friends and meeting new friends.

Our speaker was Director of Cultural Resources for The Trustees of Reservations, Lucinda Brockway. Cindy's talk was Where Do You Fit In?  Landscape Preservation and Design in a Changing World. She spoke about such wide ranging sites Native American mines and burial grounds to the highly designed landscapes of the Golden Age and the challenges facing present day managers.

We wish to thank you to Heidi Kost Gross, Maureen O'Brien and Janis Porter, the Committee who organized the event. Also a special thanks to Heidi Kost Gross, Janis Porter and Lynette Tsiang for their generous donations.

The focus of the event is the restoration of the 100 year old casino. We had an excellent response to last year's sold out Workshop at Naumkeag and expect this event will be equally popular.
